1. Loss of coverage
  2. Termination of employment
  3. The death of or divorce or legal separation from the person through whom you were covered as a dependent
  4. Exhaustion of COBRA continuation coverage
  5. Your individual plan, Medicare, Medi-Cal, or other government-sponsored coverage ends
  6. ​You moved outside the service area of your existing carrier
  7. You gained access to new health benefit plans as a result of a permanent move
  8. Provider network changes
  9. Change in eligibility for financial assistance through Covered California
  10. You are a member of the United States military returning from active duty or a member of the California National Guard
  11. Court order


The open enrollment period for individuals, families and child only plans will end January 31, 2017. Outside of this open enrollment period, you can enroll or change your coverage only if you have experienced a qualifying life event. This special enrollment period lasts 60 days after the qualifying life event occurs. Examples of a qualifying event:
